HOW TO BE A HAPPY SANTA…
Chiropractic’s Contribution to Depression Relief
“It’s the most wonderful time of
the year…” or so the song goes. Whether it is because of
being 2020 or experiencing normal holiday stress, the
wonderful-ness of this time of year might not be so wonderful for you. Symptoms of depression (agitation,
insomnia, anxiety, high adrenalin, high cortisol) are reportedly owing to
an overactive sympathetic nervous system. A new study on the effects
of chiropractic, spinal manipulation and vagal nerve stimulation presented
some encouraging news. These approaches may well be beneficial
treatment options for depression via regulation
of the autonomic nervous system which chiropractic care and spinal manipulation
do at the peripheral nervous system level and extend to the
central nervous system. The parasympathetic system thereby can counterbalance the
sympathetic system while vagal stimulation releases neurotrophines known for
being essential for the effectiveness of anti-depressive
therapies. (1) What is all this really saying? Come in for a Eugene
chiropractic visit for Eugene back pain and neck pain relief and
other spine related issues. Leave with a little more cheer. During
this wonderful time of year, we want a happy Santa…and a happy you!

Eugene CHIROPRACTIC TIP OF THE MONTH: Electrical Stimulation for Calf Cramps
Calf cramps hurt!
Back pain sufferers with lumbar spinal stenosis or lumbar disc herniation often
get calf cramps, disrupting good
sleep and daily lives. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation of the calf muscles
prone to cramps reduced cramping. Just 25% of
patient maximum tolerated stimulation intensity was helpful!
It does not take much. 55%
and 85% were effective as well. The decrease in
cramps was linked to a boost in cramp
threshold frequency, too. A bonus! (2) This new study confirmed
what a 2018 study found as well. (3) If calf cramps bother
you, let us know at your next chiropractic visit. Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic will work on them!
