“Must I exercise?”
“Yes, you should if you want to feel
better quicker and prevent pain,“ your Eugene
“How long do I
have to exercise every day?”
“Not long, just effectively,” Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic
Exercise is not every Eugene back pain or neck
pain patient’s ‘cup of tea’. Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic knows.
Exercise is also so important to our back and neck pain
patient’s recovery and future prevention of the pain. We are with our Eugene
chiropractic patients all along the way to get
the most of the exercise effort so that it results in pain relief and prevention.
OPTIMAL NECK PAIN EXERCISE GUIDES
Neck pain sufferers understand how pain
may reduce their neck motion. Such neck pain patients were tested for
their cervical range of motion and pain intensity with a flexion-rotation test.
They were then instructed to do a 20-minutes cervical spine
exercise session. 50% of them were then additionally
treated with manual therapy applied to the C0-C1 and C2-C3 cervical spine
levels. Those who did the exercise program and received
manual therapy benefitted significantly
better in terms of range of motion, pain intensity reduction,
and the flexion-rotation test. (1) Another research project found
that the optimal stretching time of cervical muscles in patients with chronic
myofascial pain syndrome was 30 seconds as opposed to 15
or 60 seconds or no stretching. This permitted the most
benefit to pain intensity decrease while minimizing
any adverse effects on neural function of the involved
nerve roots and central nervous system. (2) Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic always emphasizes
that the appropriate exercise performed in proper form doesn’t have to take long to be useful!
Plus, exercise puts some control in the
hands of its sufferer since exercise can be done anytime.
OPTIMAL LOW BACK PAIN EXERCISE GUIDES
Integrating exercise training into the
multidisciplinary treatment of non-specific chronic low back pain does make
sense. This type of back pain impacts so many
people worldwide and is a leading
source of disability. Proper exercise training transitions the back
pain sufferer to self-management. Recently, researchers proposed
that pain intensity and disability - and even mental health issues
in such back pain patients - were improved with choices
like resistance and aerobic exercise while Pilates, resistance exercise, yoga,
and stabilization exercise. (3) Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic agrees! Exercise is invaluable
in so many ways.
