WHO SMOKES?
Researchers are inquisitive about factors
linked to smoking. In a review of 7547 patients who underwent back surgery, they found
that 18% were smokers. The researchers stated that compared to the non-smokers, the smokers were younger, male,
nondiabetic, and nonobese. These patients who have coronary artery disease were more likely to be
smokers. Smokers who underwent lumbar spine back surgery presented
initially more with leg pain than
back pain and disability. Their employment, insurance/uninsured, and education
status were also related to smoking status. Interestingly
though, smoking status did not influence the
disability status one year after back surgery. (1) Modifying
such risk factors work equally well for smokers and nonsmokers
luckily. Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic would encourage a Eugene
smoker dealing with Eugene back pain to stop smoking.
SMOKING’S EFFECTS ON THE BODY
The body gets what is good for it…and what’s not. Smoking is not. Examining 2307
smokers and non-smokers, researchers found that smoking is greatly connected to spine pain. Headache,
trunk pain and limb pain ensued. Active smoking is associated
with pain in every part of the body. The spine and head withstand
the brunt of the painful influence though. If a smoker
doesn’t like pain, you’ll want to think
about stop smoking! (2) Rethwill Chiropractic Clinic is with you to back
your effort to stop smoking when you’re
ready.
